Java
Saphira Linux javaDragon
Java development on Saphira with proper support: apk add openjdk17 installs OpenJDK 17 (17.0.17_p10-r2) with the headless JRE, and Gradle drives builds alongside the Android tools. Saphira is the development machine; the agent, if you use one, is a tool you point at your code.
Available now from the hatched repository: apk add openjdk17

Gradle and Maven
Gradle and Maven are both available through the Saphira recipe system. They manage dependencies, drive compilation and produce the artifacts your project ships. Gradle (recipe name gradle) is the common choice for Android builds as well as modern Java; Maven remains widely used for conventional Java projects.
What the build system does for you
- Resolve and cache dependencies instead of vendoring them by hand.
- Compile sources and resources into jars, wars or Android packages.
- Run tests as part of the build, locally, before anything leaves the machine.
- Produce reproducible release artifacts you control.
One toolchain, many targets
The same JDK and the same Gradle or Maven invocation can build a server application that runs on Saphira, or an Android application that runs on a phone. The build system is agnostic about the target; what changes is the project configuration and, for Android, the SDK you point it at. That separation is why Java and Android development sit naturally next to each other on one workstation.
