# Saphira Linux > A from-scratch Linux distribution built with musl libc, OpenRC and APK for > x86-64-v3 virtual machines. Created by AKADATA. Motto: "It's so Simple it Hurts." Saphira is not a respin of Debian, Ubuntu, Alpine or Arch. It uses some familiar technologies (musl, APK) but has its own staged build system, package catalogue and distribution architecture. This website is served from a Saphira Linux virtual machine — Saphira is hosting Saphira. Current release: Saphira Linux Earlybird Beta (pre-release), with the development tree migrating to GCC 16.2.0 before a clean full rebuild. Repository: approximately 481 APK packages for x86_64. Primary tested virtualisation target: KVM/QEMU with VirtIO disk and network. Other VirtIO-capable platforms (Xen, VMware, VirtualBox) are expected to work as support is broadened; they are not certified. ## Pages - [Home](https://saphira.vm2.uk/): overview, release telemetry, build story - [Downloads](https://saphira.vm2.uk/downloads): Earlybird Beta image, requirements, verification - [Why Saphira?](https://saphira.vm2.uk/why-saphira): design rationale and staged build - [Features](https://saphira.vm2.uk/features): core, build system, server, virtualisation, security - [Packages](https://saphira.vm2.uk/packages): searchable index of the APK repository - [Changes](https://saphira.vm2.uk/changes): changelog and known issues - [Roadmap](https://saphira.vm2.uk/roadmap): complete / in progress / planned work - [Bugs](https://saphira.vm2.uk/bugs): bug reporting form - [Contact](https://saphira.vm2.uk/contact): general contact - [Checksums](https://saphira.vm2.uk/checksums): SHA-256 verification - [Security](https://saphira.vm2.uk/security): private vulnerability disclosure - [Privacy](https://saphira.vm2.uk/privacy): cookieless same-origin analytics ## Resources - Package repository: https://packages.akadata.ltd/saphira/main/ - Vendor: AKADATA, https://akadata.ltd
