# Kernel side

No kernel source patch is required. Linux 7.3 works with OpenZFS
2.4.4 plus the ZFS-side patches in `../patches/` exactly as
documented there; every 7.3 incompatibility we found lives in the
out-of-tree code, not in the kernel tree.

What the kernel does need (all stock 7.3, no patches):

- A normal 7.3 build with module support (`CONFIG_MODULES=y`) and
the usual ZFS prerequisites the kernel already selects itself
(exportfs, zlib, zstd, crc32c). Our test kernel additionally
carries `BTRFS_FS=y` / `XFS_FS=y` as builtins, which are unrelated
to ZFS and are not required for it.
- `Module.symvers` from a modules build (any external-module build
needs it; ZFS configure fails closed without it).

Verify with: `uname -r` reporting 7.3.x and the ZFS configure step
detecting `7.3.0` without the "maximum supported kernel" error (we
build with `--enable-linux-experimental`, which only adds an honest
dmesg warning, no code paths).
